Stellantis Moves Maserati GranTurismo Production To Another Factory For A Good Reason

- The GranTurismo and GranCabrio will be assembled at Maserati’s Modena headquarters.
- Moving production out of Mirafiori in Turin makes room for the upcoming Fiat 500 Hybrid.
- The change will take place in Q4 2025, confirming the commitment to the Motor Valley area.
Maserati has announced that production of the GranTurismo and GranCabrio models will move from the Mirafiori plant in Turin to the historic plant in Modena, which is the birthplace of their predecessors and the home of the brand’s headquarters.

The changeover will take place in the fourth quarter of 2025, coinciding with the start of production of the new Fiat 500 Hybrid in Turin. The little Fiat has a potential of 100,000 units per year, and is far more important for Stellantis than the low-volume Maserati grand tourers. As a matter of fact, sales of the Trident brand collapsed from 26,600 in 2023 to 11,300 units in 2024, leading to the “cancellation of certain projects prior to launch”.

While the future of Maserati doesn’t look that bright, the company suggests that moving production of the GranTurismo and GranCabrio to its HQ reaffirms its “strong commitment” to the Motor Valley area and its people.
The Viale Ciro Menotti plant in Modena is where the MC20 Coupe, Cielo, and GT2 Stradale are built, as well as the V6 Nettuno powertrain that powers the entire Maserati lineup. The Trident brand calls it “one of the most advanced facilities in the country”, making Modena the “luxury hub” of the Stellantis Group.
As reported by Quattroruote, most of the workers currently employed on the Maserati line in Mirafiori will work in the production of the Fiat 500 Hybrid, while some of them will be “reassigned to other existing activities” in the plant, such as the production of the eDCT gearbox.
Still, the bodywork and painting”of the GranTurismo and GranCabrio will still come from the Turin factory, which is around 300 km (186 miles) away from Modena.

The Maserati GranTurismo was unveiled in 2022, with the GranCabrio following in 2024. Both models ride on an upgraded version of the Alfa Romeo Giorgio architecture, offering the option between V6 and fully electric (Folgore) powertrains.

Santo Ficili, Maserati CEO, said:
“Bringing the GranTurismo and GranCabrio back to Modena is a proud and strategic decision that combines our industrial heritage with the capabilities of the future, for which we must also thank our colleagues at Mirafiori for the extraordinary work done in the first phase of production in recent years. By starting production in the fourth quarter of 2025, we are strengthening our roots while offering the flexibility and innovation that our customers expect.
“We are guided by our Modena-based heart: this area is the cornerstone of our extraordinary Brand, the longest-lived in the entire Italian Motor Valley, with the ability to bring to the world a unique vision of performance and driving pleasure. The Brand’s commitment to the local community is always constant, and at the same time we want to create new opportunities for growth”.
